Pura d’or Organic Shampoo

Three new reviews for Pura d’or products. I thought about keeping them together in one post, but have decided that it makes it way too long and will be separating them into their own posts.

If you like products that contain argan oil, you’ll be pleased to know that argan oil is an ingredient in all of these products.

I wasn’t sure what the difference was between the Blue label and the Gold label, but someone had already asked the question on Amazon, so I’m reposting the Q&A here:

“What is the difference between the blue label Pura d’or shampoo and the gold label one? The claims and indicators on the bottle seem to be identical.
Answer: The main difference is that this Gold label has a 100% natural preservative system that is plant based. The Blue label has phenoxyethanol as a preservative, which is not a natural but mild and safe preservative to use daily.”

I kind of wish I had be aware they had two separate ones before getting this one, as I would have opted for the gold! But c’est la vie.

I’ve been using this product for a little less than 5 weeks now, which is a bit longer than I usually wait before writing a review. Every time I brought the shampoo upstairs to do the review, I ended up distracted with something else and had to bring the shampoo back downstairs so that I could use it, LOL. I can’t tell you how many times this thing has been up and down my stairs! I like to have the products handy when I do reviews, in case you’re wondering. Of course, at this time, I’m realizing it’s downstairs again, so I’m going to have to go grab it, sigh.

As you may recall I did a review not too long ago on another argan oil shampoo, but I have to say that after using them both, this Pura d’or one is my preference.

This comes in a similar 16 fl oz plastic amber bottle with a pump top. The shampoo is clear with a very slight pale yellow tint.

It looks like it would be about the same consistency as most shampoos, but it’s a smidgen thicker with a “pull” similar to maybe honey. Because of that it can be a little hard to get a later started if you just palm it and set it in your hair – I recommend adding a little water to help it go along smoother.

It has a subtle scent, not really masculine. The ingredients list has a lot of “derived from coconut” and there are some essential oils in it like tea tree, cedar, sage, rosemary, etc. When working it into my scalp, I noticed a light tingling sensation, not a burning, more like a tickle – which I take to mean that it’s doing something to the follicles and cells of my scalp. The directions state to leave it on your hair for 2 minutes, like you would a deep conditioner, which I thought was different. While waiting for those 2 minutes to pass, most of the suds, and there weren’t too many, kind of dissipate and the hair feels sort of like you’ve used a handmade shampoo bar soap, a little stringy with a weird texture. However, after washing it off and following up with a conditioner, it bounces back.

Within the first couple of weeks, I did noticed a slowdown in the amount of hair that was loosely coming out while in the shower, but in the past couple of weeks the amount has been up and down. (I was put on two new medications during that time though, so that might attribute to the change.) The amount of hair that comes out while brushing hasn’t really changed any. The texture and shine of my hair also has not changed and there still is a ton of split ends (but I don’t think there’s much hope for those anyway, except to just cut off a few inches). I have noticed possibly a tiny bit of new hair growth (hopefully, it’s not my imagination), so I’ll be continuing to use this product and hope that the hair loss slows and the hair growth increases.

Note: I have also been using a Biotin supplement and occasionally using Argan Oil in conjunction to this shampoo.
