I have an addiction – A Matcha Addiction

So much for sticking to one ceremonial Matcha tea brand! I’m officially a cheater. It’s ok though, no shame here! I admit my Matcha addiction. If ever there was something to get addicted to, there’s nothing better than this. It’s a healthy drink, lots of great health benefits… it’s a good thing!

Just saying this now… if I get invited to review another Matcha (as long as it looks like a reputable company) and especially if it’s organic, pure, and ceremonial grade, I’m NOT turning it down. 🙂

And as it is, here we have another one from Matcha Organics, I previously reviewed their culinary grade [link].

This one is the Premium YAME Japanese Matcha Green Tea Powder Organic Ceremonial Grade.

The Matcha came in a cute little pail. It’s a little finicky to open and close and work the latch, but I think it’s stinking cute anyway! Inside the pail was a small foil bag of the Matcha. THIS Matcha, to date, is the greenest that I have encountered!!! Even greener than the other ceremonial grade that I reviewed, it’s like they JUST freshly ground the tea leaves and bagged it! Gorgeous!

It’s a sweet earthy umami scent out of the bag. I do two scoops now (about 1-1 1/4 tsp), which is still on the mild side, probably, compared to what most people put in theirs, but it’s not bitter to me at all. Faintly sweet on the tongue, smooth rich matcha flavor. Deliciousness in a cup! Seriously! Love this stuff! I think I’ve been drinking at least 3-4 cups a day.

20160114_170549And YES, I finally got a couple of the traditional ceremonial tools – Bamboo Whisk (Chasen) and Hooked Bamboo Scoop (Chashaku). I was so happy about being able to get my hands on a set! Up until now I’ve been using an electric milk frother to “whisk” it. Being curious about using the traditional tools, a set like this has been on my wishlist for a couple of months at least and I finally got one and can cross it off my list, which is wonderful! They seem to be of good quality, but then again, this is my first set, so I’m not sure what a higher end one would look like in order to compare. In one of the photos below, I have it in too much liquid for it to froth much without being too vigorous with the stirring and splashing it everywhere, but it did whisk and mix it well despite the water level.

I love the little scoop, as well, as it’ll be easy to scoop out the right amount of matcha for my taste preferences (previous to this, I was using a cheese spread knife). The electric milk frother is, as you would imagine, still a quicker method, but in those times when I just want to take my time and do it the correct way, this is a perfect set for a beginner like myself. Still need to get me a nice bowl and Japanese tea cup set!

  1. Great review, nice set of pictures! I haven’t had matcha in a while (other than the drink Jamba Juice has to offer). The whisk and scoop are my favourite details to matcha tea powders, it feels elegant and taking your time to mix the drink before enjoying is rewarding 🙂 ! Making me tempted to buy a pack!
